We are really moving forward with our essays analyzing main characters’ development over the course of a text. Although our writing time today was cut short by the field test, those who did have time to work added to their drafts either on the computer or written on separate paper.
Drafts for odd-day classes are due at the end of class Thursday. A sample character analysis essay can be found here.
As I read alongside you as you are drafting, I’m noticing that many are falling into the “Plot Summary Trap.”. It is easy to feel like you need to retell the entire plot of your book to your reader, but remember that is not the purpose of a character analysis essay.
Remember to use your mentor text (model essay) as well as the notes in your reading journal as support for your writing.
